My Design Philosophy

As a designer I strive to create designs tht give my client a sense of place. Space and place are two very different concepts in the world of design. The term space refers to the physical environment around you, while the concept of place is how a client feels toward the design, and whether they feel that they belongDesign isn’t only about function and aesthetics, it's about creating a space that evokes an emotional response from the client

My goal is to design environments where my clients can develop a sense of identity and feel as though they belong. One way that I create a sense of place is by designing spaces that encourage interaction among people.  This is achieved by utilizing sociopetal seating arrangementsThis type of seating is used to encourage interaction by having the seats facing in toward a group. Using sociopetal seating is one way to get people to develop their own sense of place and feel more comfortable in their environment. As I advance in my design career, I aim to stay true to this philosophy by designing functional spaces that bring people together.

  1. I think it's great that you recognize how design affects people's emotions and want to create a sense of place. I've been in so many buildings where nothing triggers a response in me to feel connected to or like I belong in the space. Design definitely should create a positive response from the end-user, so people will want to actually stay or even look forward to returning! I look forward to hearing more of your ideas about how your designs can bring people together.
